For patients suffering from a certain kind of heart attack called a STEMI, or ST elevation myocardial infarction, our staff at Progress West Hospital can play a lifesaving role in their treatment.
STEMI is a heart attack that occurs when the patient has a blocked blood vessel, and swift treatment is essential to save as much heart muscle as possible. When STEMI patients arrive at our emergency room, our highly trained staff takes them to our state-of-the-art
cardiac catheterization lab for an interventional cardiac catheterization, which may include the placement of a stent to open blocked arteries.
